What a Demarc Extension Actually Involves
The demarcation point is where the carrier’s responsibility ends and yours begins.
- The minimum point of entry (MPOE) is where the carrier’s cable physically enters the building.
- A demarc extension runs conduit or cable from that point to your server room, IDF, or main equipment location.
- This is typically coordinated with the carrier’s own technician, who terminates their side of the connection.
- Extensions can carry copper or fiber circuits, depending on what the carrier is delivering.

- Equipment is mounted on backboards or racks rather than left loose.
